absolute tense
Definition - Any tense that refers to time in relation to the moment that the words are actually being said, e.g. I'm going to the store. and I went to the store.

As opposed to relative tense, which refers to a time in relation to another specified time, e.g. "While I was walking in the woods, I saw a squirrel."

1. All grammatical tenses are deictic, i.e. the time they refer to is unknown without context. The focus of the deixis can, for example, be either the moment of discourse (absolute tense) or the moment being discussed (relative tense).
