Definition - An inability to read caused by physical impairment.

Etymology -
The word derives from the Greek a, not + lexis, word.

Oxford English Dictionary -
Its first citation is from 1878:
"It is … by no means easy to say how much of the alexia and paralexia is to be ascribed to the hemiopia."
