(1) To assess is to appraise,
(2) to inform someone of something is to apprise them of it.

Etymology -

(1) The word appraise derives from the Late Latin appretiare, value or estimate (from ad, to + pretium, price). In English, appraise was originally spelled apprize but the spelling changed because of the influence of the word praise.
(2) The word apprise derives from the French appris, the past participle of apprendre, to inform.
