brachygraphy
Definition: A type of shorthand where brevity of writing is emphasized.
Note: This is opposed to tachygraphy where writing speed is emphasized.
Etymology: The word derives from the Greek brachys, short + graphein, to write.
Oxford English Dictionary: Its first citation is from 1590:
"The art of brachygraphie, that is, to write as fast as a man speaketh treatably."
