Speech or narration in the form it was uttered.
1. As opposed to indirect speech, which is speech or narration that has been modified to show that it is being reported by another person.
(1) "I am the walrus." (direct speech)
(2) He says he's the walrus. (indirect speech)

"A very good historian uses the phrase Direct Speech, or harangue, when he introduces any one speaking, or haranguing of himself."
