Definition - A more-ancient (and almost obsolete) synonym of malapropism, a comically incorrect word that is mistakenly used in place of another similar word.

Example -
"He committed a carnival sin."

Etymology -
The word was coined from the proper noun Dogberry, the the name of the comically incompetent constable in Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, who — like Mrs. Malaprop in Sheridan's play The Rivals (1775) — ridiculously misused large words.
