(1899 – 1985) The American writer and long-time contributor to the New Yorker who wrote Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little. In 1959, White edited and updated his former Cornell professor William Strunk's The Elements of Style, an extremely popular prescriptivist handbook.
White's revision of the book was very well received, so much so that it has been nicknamed Strunk and White ever since.
