General Purpose Dictionary
Definition - (Aka GPD )

A monolingual dictionary that defines and explains the words of one language, e.g. the Concise Oxford Dictionary.

As opposed to multilingual dictionaries, which define the terms of one language using the words of another language.

Notes:
1. The first English GPD was Robert Cawdrey's Table Alphabeticall, which was published in 1604.
