Coleridge looking sickly.

(1830 — 1861) A British philologist and consumptive, he was, along with Richard Trench and Frederick Furnivall, one of the three key instigators of the project that led to the creation of the Oxford English Dictionary . He also wrote the dictionary's initial plan and was its first editor. Perhaps sensing the amount of work this would involve, he died during the first year of his appointment.
