(1) A store of something valuable is a hoard,
whereas
(2) a large group of people, warriors, or socialists is a horde.

Notes:
1. The two words are homophones, i.e. words that sound the same but are not spelled the same.

Etymology -

(1) The word hoard derives from the Old English hord, treasure.
(2) The word horde ultimately derives from the Turkic ordu, camp.
