hyperbaton

Definition: Adding emphasis by using words in an unexpected order.

Etymology: The word means "overstepping" in Greek (from Greek hyper, over + bainein, to step).
Oxford English Dictionary: Its first citation is from 1579:
"A patheticall parenthesis, to encrease a carefull Hyperbaton."
