inkpot term
Definition - Another name for an inkhorn term, i.e. an obscure, ostentatious word usually derived from Latin or Greek.

Example -
floccinaucinihilipilification, the action or habit of estimating as worthless (an inkpot term used in a 1741 letter by Shenstone).

Etymology -
They were so called because they were used in writing but not in speech.

The term's first citation is from 1553:
"A very Caulf that…thought by his ynke pot termes to get a good Parsonage."
