A term that describes adjectives whose qualities are seen as absolute.
Note: As opposed to gradability which describes adjectives which can be either (1) compared or (2) used with intensifiers.
(1) The adjective dead is non-gradable because it denotes an absolute state. You are either dead or alive. You can't (logically) be very dead or extremely dead or deader than someone else.
(2) The adjective sophisticated is gradable because you can use it with intensifiers such as very and extremely.
