| Definition -
A word that does not respect a language's phonotactic restrictions, e.g. it uses sounds that do not exist in the language or is spelt in a way that is not permitted by the spelling rules of the language.
As opposed to a pseudoword, which is a word that is not an actual word in the language but appears to be one because it respects the language's phonotactic restrictions.
For example, wug is an English pseudoword, whereas dxffldk is an English nonword.
