paraph
Definition -
(1) An obsolete synonym of the word paragraph.
(2) An obsolete name for a pilcrow (i.e. paragraph mark) that has been placed in the margin.

Etymology -
The word paraph derives ultimately from the Medieval Latin paraphus, a shortened form of paragraphus.

Oxford English Dictionary -
Its first citation in sense (1) is from 1395:
"Hostiance, in the paraf ‘Quid si clericus’, seith [etc.]."
