Definition: Someone who uses periphrasis (i.e., indirect and roundabout language).
Example: Richard Nixon
Etymology: The word derives from the Greek peri, round about + phrazein, to express.
Oxford English Dictionary: Its first citation is from 1879:
"Edward Fitzgerald, the translator or periphrast of Omar Kayyam."
