(1779 - 1869) Peter Roger was the British lexicographer and physician who invented the thesaurus. He started it in 1805 as a list of words that he compiled for his own purposes. After 1840, Roget's Thesaurus of English Words and Phrases became his full-time job. It was published in 1852.
