Notes:
1. Because it is part of the human digestive and respiratory system, both food and air pass through it.
2. A flap of tissue called the epiglottis closes over the trachea when food is swallowed to prevent choking or aspiration.

Etymology -
The word derives from the Greek pharynx, windpipe or throat.
