Marcus Valerius Probus was a Roman grammarian who lived during the time of Nero (circa CE 70). He compiled a list of approximately 300 terms that were commonly mispronounced or misused during his day — sort of a Latin version of Fowler's Modern English Usage. He also included the corresponding "correct" forms. Note: The "incorrect" versions attracted the interest of modern linguists because they revealed trends in the spoken Latin of the time.
