sluicing
Definition - A type of ellipsis that occurs in both direct and indirect interrogative clauses. It is introduced by a wh-cleft and, usually, everything after the wh-cleft is omitted.

Example -

(1) Phoebe wants to eat something, but she doesn't know what [she wants to eat].

(2) Jon doesn't like lentils, but he doesn't know why [he doesn't like lentils].
