Definition - A fashionable word that is used to impress rather than inform.

Example -

Etymology -
The term was probably coined by Fowler so that he could use it as a category in Modern English Usage.

Oxford English Dictionary -
Its first citation is from Fowler in 1926:
"Vogue-words. Every now and then a word emerges from obscurity, or even from nothingness or a merely potential and not actual existence, into sudden popularity."
